PORTLAND BILLIARD BALL COMPANY

Hidden inside this innocuous box is my newest Mah Jongg acquisition – with thanks to X for alerting me to its sale on the Internet – a Mah Jongg set manufactured by the Portland Billiard Ball Company of Portland, Maine. The tiles are thin pieces of colorful plastic/celluloid glued or somehow affixed to a hard and slightly curved black base made of…well, I really don’t know what the base of the tile is – perhaps some kind of very rigid plastic or is it wood? I was fortunate enough to have had the world’s most wonderful Godmother who now watches over me from the heavens above. And, as proof that she is still looking out for me, her daughter – my “Godsister” – has taken on the duties of watching over me here on earth…today I received the most thoughtful gift from her – a pair of vintage Mah Jongg earrings.

What a surprise! And who knew? National Geographic is selling the cutest Mah Jongg travel set. And since I am getting ready to have knee replacement surgery, this is the perfect set to take along with me to the hospital and then to the rehab facility following the surgery. Clearly I am very optimistic about picking up some Mahj games while I am away!
