I love this picture because it really tells it all. Fortunately for us, the OMs never get into this kind
of a tiff and quite honestly, I had hoped that there would be no reason ever to use this picture
again.
But, with much thanks to Gladys Grad, the Grand Master of American Style Mah Jongg
Tournaments, we have received a question (and answer) that is quite surprising and thus the
reason for this picture to be posted again.
My thought is, why would you want to play the most fun and wonderful game with someone
who behaves this way?
Read on – and right on to Gladys for giving the best answer!
BTW, have you had similar situations with your group? Let me know what happened and how it
was settled.
Q. I had two exposures and a player threw my mahj tile. One of the other players (who
can sometimes be very testy) actually YELLED at her for throwing a tile to an obvious
hand, and then literally DUMPED her own tiles. The discarder tried nicely to explain that
she was set for mahj, and decided to take a chance. She wouldn’t listen. This player
corrects us a lot. How can we nicely explain that we have a right to play the way we feel
is okay? Cathy S, OH
A. Am I missing something here? This player YELLS at you, aggresively dumps her tiles, and is
testy……and you are still trying to be nice to her?
She’s a BULLY. It’s time to tell her she isn’t welcome in your game.
BTW, have you had similar situations with your group? Let me know what happened and how
you settled the disagreement.
