You might remember that I have confessed to messing up concealed hands by not paying attention to the fact that they are concealed! The other day I told you that I was going to highlight those hands on the card…well, apparently I am not the only one who needs that colorful hint. Our friend Donna has highlighted in red the concealed hands on her NMJL card as you can see in the picture below – smart move! You know the saying: fool me once…
BTW, my card is now highlighted and here it is:
Hope you realize that the yellow highlighter fades pretty quickly

That’s the first thing I do when the card arrives, and I tell others to do the same. It’s so discouraging to get the hand and not be a winner.

HELP:
I have tried every highlight color, they all fade, totally disappear. What is the trick to keep highlighter on?
Thank you, PJ

Hi PJ – I have heard that the red highlighter is better than the yellow. I used the yellow and it really never adhered to the card – it can easily be wiped off or rubbed off on your fingers. But I have the plastic cover/case that holds my card so it is protected somewhat. So far, so good – no fading but it hasn’t been that long. The only other thing I could suggest is just to put a black dot next to the concealed hands. Maybe that is a better solution?

Thank you! I find that it still fades away so I’m thinking of underlining with blue ink??? I’ve been reading your past newsletters, fun and great that you do this. I’ve been teaching my husband how to play, my friend Sanna from NYC told me about you and described Honeymoon Mah Jongg! Thank you, PJ

You are Sanna’s friend? Well, then that automatically makes you a very good friend of mine! Sanna is one of my most favorite people on this earth. And isn’t it great to know that we can now play Mah Jongg with just two people!!

Sanna and I went to grammar school together in CT. Quit by fluke, we reconnected and have been E-pals for the past ten years! My Mom thought me how to play fifty years ago (wow, did I just say that!). In my late twenties my Mah Jongg group and I drove to lower Manhattan and each bought a set for $28.00! I am teaching my husband, Shelly, by setting up the walls, rolling the dice, dealing out to us and two dummies so that he will know how to do the Charleston and have a sense for the game. I am now into strategy play with him. We will now engage in Honeymoon Mah Jongg, thanks to Sanna! Have a great rest of the summer, PJ……. PS Sanna knows me as Phyllis which I dropped as nobody could spell it correctly!
