MAH JONGG FOR BEGINNERS…

Much thanks to the wonderful Tony (“Bony”) Watson for telling us about this rare Mah Jongg book:

DSCF1561

In Tony’s words, “Not often seen, this is a 1963 printing of a 1952 book by Shozo Kanai & Margaret Farrell, but it reads like a much earlier book; the language is over-complicated and ambiguous and uses some strange and non-standard terms for the names of the tiles and the melds.
Not the best book in the world, which probably accounts for its scarcity…”

And, of course, please note the publisher – Charles E. Tuttle Company of Rutland, Vermont and Tokyo, Japan. Why do I bring this to your attention? Well, you probably know that our soon-to-be-available book, MAH JONGG: THE ART OF THE GAME, is published by the successor to Charlie’s company, Tuttle Publishing of North Clarendon, Vermont AND Singapore, Tokyo, and Jakarta! (Forgive me – I just can’t help giving another plug for the book!).

Katie – how can I describe how frustrated I am? They have changed the date (initially the book was coming out in the beginning of September) so many times and I simply don’t understand the problem. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do…except be frustrated! 😦 indeed!
