Mah Jongg is not just a game. It has become a part of my life that allows me to entertain my Mah Jongg-playing friends, cook great meals to serve to them and test my mental skills during our game play (which, hopefully, is often).
It’s Mah Jongg Wednesday for the OMs and once again it is my turn to host – which I absolutely love doing! A fun menu and lots of fun getting everything ready – tomorrow’s posting will feature the hands we played from the new 2014 card and the next day I will post the recipes from our lunch.
I woke up very early this morning to get things going. I’m making Curried Chicken Salad along with a Watermelon and Arugula Salad for our lunch and then for dessert we’ll have mixed berries with a raspberry sauce and the fabulous biscotti from Grace’s Marketplace.
Yesterday was our weekly game day and it was X’s turn to host. We all are big fans of Fresh Direct – X ordered in their fabulous Southwest Chicken Salad, which she doctored up to make it ever better. On the side was Fresh Direct’s delicious cornbread. Dessert was fresh strawberries and blueberries with Fresh Direct’s new gluten free brownies and blondies – and they are really good! Of course, our Mah Jongg games would be nothing without the requisite big bowl of black licorice!
First we played with a vintage bone and bamboo set – absolutely magnificent – and we were especially careful not to drop any of the tiles on the carpet as X’s wonderful dog loves anything made of BONE! Duh!!
S hosted one of our wonderful “mahjathons” in the fall of 2012 – we drove out to Sag Harbor and cooked and played Mah Jongg and cooked and played Mah Jongg, etc., and barely slept for three days. We did venture out at one point and went for a sight-seeing tour of Sag Harbor and a little bit of shopping at the fabulous store, Bloom.
