FEAST YOUR EYES ON THIS SET!

From our good friend Stuart in Seattle:

“I switched from S&P Winds to this hand when I picked a joker, then discarded the joker and ended up here.  It’s a Red Coin set. Dee Gallo is brilliant. I mentally thank her every time we play with it. She made the soaps to all white for me… I had a choice of Gold or Black and asked her if we could just leave them blank.”

Stuart WilberBTW, I didn’t know Stuart but I received an email from him a while ago – as coincidence would have it, his parents were golfing buddies with my aunt and uncle – what a small world! And how nice that I have connected with this terrific guy all through our mutual love of Mah Jongg. You know what I always say – Mah Jongg people are the nicest people.

MAH JONGG WEDNESDAY PAST…

The OMs didn’t get together for Mah Jongg Wednesday this week because S1, S2, and I all went to a luncheon and then a lecture by Maureen Footer on George Stacey. With three OMs missing from the weekly game, and because we were all together on Monday for a birthday luncheon feting S1, S2, and J (all November birthday gals), we won’t play again until next week. However, I never did post photos from last week’s game at S2’s apartment so, here they are. It was a truncated game day for me as we had our book launch that evening and I had to bow out of Mah Jongg early on. But here is a quick look at our fun day:

We started out with a wonderful tomato soup, followed by a delicious quiche and a fabulous tossed salad.

Then our game play began. Take a look at this gorgeous set – these tiles really are quite spectacular.

Check out the fabulous Joker in the middle of my rack – these were carved by the one and only Dee Gallo to match the tiles in the set

And here is one of the winning hands from my brief day of Mah Jongg:

Another glimpse of this hand which shows more of these beautiful tiles form the set –

IMG_2351I did get to play a couple more hands but apparently I didn’t take photos – I was getting very excited about the evening’s book launch and I think that was the only thing on my mind.

MAH JONGG WEDNESDAY WITH THE OMs!

Yesterday was Mah Jongg Wednesday and S2 hosted. We skipped getting together last week because everyone was out of town and it was so good to get back together – wow – skipping a week seems like we skipped months!! J is still in Europe and we all can’t wait to see her and catch up on her travels upon her return next week.

S2 prepared a beautiful lunch – as always – and the table was also beautifully set. We all enjoyed a wonderful poached salmon with a delicious cucumber sauce along with an Israeli cous cous salad. Dessert was a fabulous apple crisp but I was so busy enjoying it that I forgot to take a picture!
