I AM SO HONORED!!!

Jen Gordon, the owner of the online store and website, Mad About Mah Jongg, has put up a posting about me on her Facebook page – wow!!!

She calls it her…

…and here is what she wrote:

Ann Israel, the co-author of the book, Mah Jongg: The Art of the Game, teaches a number of different Mah Jongg classes: Beginners Mah Jongg, Advanced Strategy Mah Jongg, and Supervised Play Mah Jongg. Ann also gives accelerated learning classes for groups of 4 or more where the game is taught in two consecutive half-day sessions. These classes are also offered in the Hamptons and other “second home” locations. In addition to teaching Mah Jongg, Ann travels throughout the country, giving her Power Point presentation on the history of the game. Ann lives on the Upper East Side of Manhattan; she writes a daily blog, Mah Jongg and Me (www.mahjonggandme.com) and invites everyone to send photos and anecdotes about their Mah Jongg experiences for posting on the blog (send to ann@mahjonggandme.com) and to visit her in NYC where she will be sure to put together a group to play Mah Jongg with you!

I am honored to be included in one of her “Teacher Feature” postings. Be sure to visit Jen’s website for news on upcoming tournaments and socials and to buy some of the great Mah Jongg related products that she offers. Jen says, “After retiring from a successful career of 24 years, I founded Mad About Mah Jongg, Inc. as a way to combine my love of Mah Jongg with my skills as an artist and designer. Many of our products were conceived and designed in-house. Our very popular Mahj-tini and Mahj-arita glasses are two fun examples. More importantly, we are proud to provide the highest quality merchandise available. And, our products are made by local artisans and manufacturers in the USA, whenever possible. It’s an important tradition we embrace wholeheartedly.”

And please be sure to “like” Jen’s Facebook page!!!

THANKS, JEN!!!

MAH JONGG PEOPLE (in miniature!)

The other day I received an email from Nancy Bono, telling me about these Mah Jongg pins and magnets that she makes. My first thought was, “cute…but…” and then I received the following message from her: “These mahjong tiles belonged to my mother and grandmother. i wanted to keep them close to my heart. They are little people pins and are very versatile. No two are alike.”

As soon as I read her message, I realized how dear these little “people” really are. I love the sentimentality involved with each piece. And Nancy is definitely prolific! If you are interested, you can contact Nancy at nancybono20@yahoo.com or visit her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/nancyb.mahjong. Nancy’s little Mah Jongg people are $20 each (includes shipping).

Here is just a sampling of Nancy’s creativity:pin pin2 pin3 pin4 pin5 pin6 pin7 pin8 pin9 pin10 pin11 pin12 pin13 pin14 pin15 pin16

ARE YOU A “FEEB?”

We are all buzzing about the new Facebook group, “Mah Jongg, That’s It.” On one of the first postings, Meredith told us the funniest story along with photos and she has generously given me permission to share it with all of you. Enjoy…

Meredith wrote, “I play with such a great group of ladies. We have started shaming ourselves in order to play better, complete with our “FEEBS” tiaras (which stands for feeble). And just to clarify the discarding feebs pictured below … They began by discarding a tile immediately after the Charleston. They were not East. When the true East discarded, the Feeb’s East was declared dead due to having only 12 tiles. If they had caught it before East discarded, they would have been fine. So far, our entire group has worn the FEEBS tiara at one time or another. (Some of us more than others!)”
