HOPE YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THIS CHEERED ME UP…

I’ve been so blue all day about missing Gladys Grad’s Mah Jongg Madness tournament in Las Vegas but when I received this wonderful email from Donna in California, my spirits were lifted to the sky! Thank you so very much to Donna and friends!!!

Dear Ann,

There were 12 of us who played at Mussell Center today and I read your morning blog post to everyone. They were very sad for you so we took a “sad photo” showing our disappointment that you couldn’t get there and then a “happy photo” because we love your book, love playing and love your blog!

Feel free to use however!

This group is mostly the newer group and not the one with all of the “old timers” (about 26 people). We did appreciate the suggestions from all of the readers!

Stay warm,

Donna

OH, YES!!!

I am so very sad to say that I did not make it to  Las Vegas after all – I spent the entire day yesterday and just about all of last night sitting at JFK airport as my flight was delayed…and then delayed again…and then delayed again… until finally at around 11:30 PM they allowed us to board the plane and then proceeded to tell us that it would be a while until they could load in the luggage. At about 12:45 AM a man announced that we all had to “deplane.” Pandemomium ensued and when I asked the flight attendant what was going on, he told me that the pilot simply did not want to fly during these late hours. I proceeded to one of the airline’s agents who told me that the next available seat to Las Vegas would be late Saturday afternoon. So, I headed all the way back to my apartment – without my luggage, I might add, since the airline has no idea where my suitcase might be – and arrived home around 3 in the morning. I can’t begin to tell you how disappointed I am that I will not be at the Mah Jongg Madness tournament (along with about 100 copies of my book that are sitting at the Las Vegas Fed Ex waiting for me to pick them up). More regular postings to come but, in the meantime, allow me to take a deep breath and remember:

OFF TO LAS VEGAS!

Hopefully the weather will allow my flight to take off today! We have another major storm going on here in NYC – please let this be the last storm of this crazy winter!

In the meantime, I received more information from Deb who was the subject of yesterday’s posting. I know some of you were upset that her group plays 14 tile Mah Jongg. Remember, these are table rules and apparently quite a common way to play the game in Florida. However, those of you who were upset will be happy to know that Deb and own of her groups also play the standard NMJL game. Additionally, Deb is a fairly new player and I am going to guess that the 14 tile table rule game is how she was taught so let’s lighten up on this…besides, no matter what your personal opinion may be, the more players of the game, the better it is for all of us – Deb is playing three times a week with different groups each time – you have to love her commitment to the game!

This picture was taken at my house in Port Orange, FL. I am the one in the black top. I also play on Wednesday with a different group of ladies and Fridays with yet another group. Fridays game is a 13 tile League Rules game. My games are played in each others homes, some in New Smyrna, FL and one game a week in Oak Hill, FL. I have been playing Mahjong for a year and a half and can’t get enough of it.

LOVE YOUR PHOTOS!

I am leaving tomorrow for the big tournament in Las Vegas – hopefully there will be lots of posts from this trip but please bear with me if I miss a day or two. In the meantime, Deb B. sent the following photo – I hope you all know how much I LOVE when you send me photos from your Mah Jongg games. Keep those pictures coming!!! BTW, Deb – where are you located? Where do you play? How often? Is it always the same people? Details, ladies!
