ALL THAT GLITTERS…IS FABULOUS!!!

In honor of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month I am editing and rerunning a column from about two years ago…here it is:

Screen Shot 2016-01-24 at 11.48.24 PMThat Lynn Chorn from www.wherethewindsblow.com is one fabulous lady. And, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she carries this terrific Breast Cancer Awareness Mah Jongg Set.

I own this set and I can promise you that it is special and something that I treasure. It is a great gift for any and everyone, especially those whose lives – or the lives of loved ones – have been touched by breast cancer.

Check out these wonderful “Find the Cure” Jokers that match the pink glitter tiles of the set:

Breast Cancer Tiles-XL-001And look at everything that comes with this set, including the great pair of dice and pink racks with pushers attached!Breast Cancer Special Value Set (2)BTW, the set also comes with ten regular pink glitter Jokers, just in case you want to use the “Find the Cure” pink ribbon tiles for something else.

And now Lynn is selling these special dice alone for only $5. What a great gift this is for anyone who has been touched by this disease (and we all know at least one person, don’t we?)

THINKING OF LYNN…

I spoke with Lynn at Where the Winds Blow yesterday and was left speechless when I heard that she lost her entire home during the hurricane. But, to my amazement, Lynn was upbeat and optimistic. She said the good news is that the store was untouched by Harvey and she had just received a huge shipment of new Mah Jongg items for her inventory.

Lynn is an amazing woman – I hope you always will support her for anything you might need Mah Jongg-related and especially right now while she and her family work on building a new place to live. BTW, when I told her that I was going to do a blog on this, she said, “I don’t want anyone to see me as a victim.” As always, Lynn was positive and thankful that nothing happened to the store. She really is wonderful and I consider her to be a very dear friend.

Here is the message she has sent out to the Mah Jongg community:

WE’RE THINKING OF YOU…

Our hearts are heavy for everyone in Texas right now but I am especially thinking good thoughts and sending prayers for our dear friends Lynn and Frances at our favorite Mah Jongg store, Where the Winds Blow, located in Houston.

They are showing their true colors of commitment to all of us by posting this message on their website:

We’re not letting Hurricane Harvey stop us! Please shop ONLINE (not in store) and send us emails, but phone calls will be returned and orders will be sent out as soon as weather permits!

You can email them at sales@wherethewindsblow.com or call at 281.578.7571. If you need anything Mah Jongg-related right now, let’s support these terrific women trying to stay afloat (literally) in Houston by shopping ONLINE at their fabulous store.

And, in case you are wondering how you can help the people of Texas and Louisiana, here are some suggestions:

The American Red Cross is accepting donations on its website. You can also text HARVEY to 90999 to donate $10.

AmeriCares takes medicine and supplies to survivors.

Catholic Charities provides food, clothing, shelter and support services to those from all religious backgrounds.

Direct Relief is shipping medicine and medical supplies to Texas, and has made its entire medical inventory of more than $100 million available for the Harvey relief effort.

Matthew 25: Ministries is distributing personal care kits, cleaning products, first aid and safety kits, diapers, paper products and tarps.

Donations to the Salvation Army can be made online, by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769) or texting STORM to 51555.

Save the Children is delivering baby supplies, including cribs and strollers, and setting up child-friendly spaces in shelters.

AABB, which coordinates a task force to manage blood collection efforts during disasters, put out a call on Sunday for blood donations in the aftermath of Harvey. Most in demand: those with type O-positive blood.

Those interested in donating blood may contact the following organizations:

• AABB: 301-907-6977• America’s Blood Centers • American Red Cross: 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767)• Armed Services Blood Program: 703-681-5979

Airbnb is waiving service fees for those affected by the disaster and checking in between Aug. 23 and Sept. 25, and can guide users in creating a listing where their home is offered to victims free.

GoFundMe has created a page with all of its Harvey-related campaigns, including one started by the country singer Chris Young, who donated $100,000, and another created by the president and chief executive of the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce.

YouCaring has a fund-raising page set up by J. J. Watt of the Houston Texans with a goal of $10 million. By 9:30 p.m. Wednesday it had raised more than $7 million.

GlobalGiving’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund supports local organizations by helping to “meet survivors’ immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products and shelter.” It will also assist with longer-term recovery efforts.

THE GRAND MASTER!

You probably know that I adore both Gladys Grad, the Grand Master of American-Style Mah Jongg Tournaments, and Lynn Chorn, the owner of the fabulous Mah Jongg website, www.wherethewindsblow.com. What a great delight today for me to see that Gladys has written a wonderful article for Lynn and her website. And it is really an informative and interesting article – one that all of you will want to read, especially for those of you interested in tournament play. Much thanks to Gladys and Lynn for always providing us with such wonderful Mah Jongg information!
